Recommend Pet insurance

Can you guys recommend good pet insurance? I currently have Fetch because that’s what the shelter recommended and had me enroll in the day I adopted my puppy. It’s been almost 3 months since then and I hate it. My puppy is soon to be 6 months healthy mixed breed boy with no prior health conditions and I pay $52/month. The only concern that I have with switching pet insurance is the “pre-existing conditions”. During my first vet visit, I asked the vet so many questions because this is my first time raising a dog😅 and the vet included them in the note. The two that I’m worried about is asking the vet regarding his dry skin and the fact that he peed a lot the day before. I’m hearing from other pet owners that anything can be marked as pre-existing conditions and deny claims/reimbursements. Any suggestions? Which insurance do you guys have a positive experience with?

A Question About Pet Insurance

some policies treat cured conditions differently once the cat has been off treatment for a set period - call the insurer directly before enrolling and ask exactly how they classify a resolved FIP case. saves a lot of fighting claims later. Fetch has decent reps in my experience, worth a phone call

Having a hard time mentally coping with cat with UTI and pancreatitis atm

Hey everyone! Haven't had to come on here for awhile, but here I am. I had my first cat, Biff, for about a year before he passed at age 3 from a urinary blockage that never got better and a history of UTIs. Was honestly one of the most heart wrenching things I've had to go through. A couple months after his death, I adopted my current lil guy Lucifer, age 4. Super spunky, sweet, and loving. I've had him about 8 months now, no huge complications, but had to take him to an emergency vet yesterday due to unusual behavior and him showing discomfort. $1k later, he is diagnosed with a UTI with crystals AND pancreatitis. He's been home for around 24 hours now and had two really good pees and then strained a couple times not too long ago, but did eventually get a decent amount out. I already called the vet and they are having me continue monitoring him since we are only two rounds of antibiotics in and he is still getting pee out. He also hasn't pooped yet so stressing a little about that too 🤦‍♀️ I do thankfully have pet insurance with Fetch that I got the day I adopted him, so I don't see any reason for what's been going on to not be covered by insurance. I am just feeling so anxious that this will be a repeat of what happened with my first cat and/or I am going to go into immense debt if for some reason insurance denies my claims. I am especially scared if he gets a blockage bc that will be one step closer to what has already happened before. Does anyone have any advice with experience with their cat going through something similar? Experiences with insurance for claims like this with no preexisting conditions? I'm just spiraling rn and need some words of support or information if y'all have any 🫶

A Question About Pet Insurance

i can’t help with hiding or omitting medical history, since pet insurance claims are reviewed against full vet records and it can lead to denials or policy issues down the line if anything doesn’t match up. what tends to come up in situations like this is focusing on transparent enrollment and long term coverage expectations instead, with plans like fetch pet insurance often mentioned because they’re structured around clear pre existing condition rules so there’s less ambiguity when claims get reviewed later.

fetch vs spot pet insurance

Yeah id be thinking the same way with a border collie bc its not if something happens its when. what trips people up is assuming all pet insurance works the same and then being surprised when certain things arent covered after the fact. i see a lot of comparisons where fetch pops up for covering stuff like behavioral issues and rehab which actually matters for high energy breeds that can develop quirks or injuries. also worth knowing no company covers pre existing stuff so starting early like you are is kinda the best move you can make.

fetch vs spot pet insurance

That breed is nonstop motion so planning for ligament injuries or joint strain is honestly just being realistic. Something a lot of owners learn the hard way is that pet insurance works more like car insurance, so claims history can affect pricing no matter which company you pick. Looked into Fetch vs Spot before and what stood out was how Fetch handles keeping people covered even after big claims instead of pushing them out, which some companies are known for. Over time that matters more than a slightly lower premium in the beginning.

fetch vs spot pet insurance

Border collie energy is no joke so youre already ahead thinking about long term stuff like hips injuries and random accidents. the claims side is where people start to see differences, especially when its not just one visit but ongoing care meds and checkups. seen fetch pet insurance brought up a lot because it tends to cover a wider range without splitting everything into add ons, which can make a big difference with an active puppy. spot isnt bad but people sometimes realize later theyre paying extra to get closer to that same level of coverage.

fetch vs spot pet insurance

I went through the same comparison and ended up choosing Spot mainly because I could adjust the deductible and monthly cost to fit my budget, and when my dog had a minor injury that needed a couple follow-up visits, the claims process was pretty straightforward and helped with part of the expenses. From what I saw while researching, Spot tends to be more flexible and budget-friendly, while Fetch leans more toward broader built-in coverage but can cost more upfront, so it really comes down to whether you want lower monthly cost or more all-in coverage from the start.

A Question About Pet Insurance

I adopted a 7 month old male cat from a rescue and a few weeks later he was diagnosed with wet FIP. The Rescue has been amazing - they are covering all the costs and got me in touch with local groups for additional support. It was caught pretty early and the big guy started improving within the first week. He is already back to his snuggly & playful self. I'm wondering if anyone has insight on Pet Insurance. I've not yet enrolled him, but my other cat is with Fetch. I'm concerned that a history of FIP is going to result in claim denials or having to fight on every issue because they're going to say its related to FIP = therefore a pre-existing condition. I haven't brought him to my actual Vet yet. The Rescue encouraged me to use the Vet that works with them until the FIP treatment is complete (so costs are covered or at least reduced). When I did all the adoption paperwork I did get paper copies of his vaccinations & neuter. Also, I have already changed his name for the microchip. You can probably tell where this is going. What's to stop me from bringing the paperwork to my actual Vet (once the cat is recovered), saying I adopted him from a rescue and just omitting the FIP? There is nowhere in the insurance form to list conditions so I'm not straight-up lying. *Edit* I'm asking this because I have had several people try and tell me it's an option, and I've heard enough stories of insurance companies screwing people over that it has me stressed.

fetch vs spot pet insurance

It’s honestly stressful trying to pick when you know how wild border collies can be and how fast a simple zoomie turns into a vet visit. A lot of people don’t talk about how claims feel until you’re dealing with follow ups, meds, and repeat visits, not just the initial accident. People mention Fetch a lot because it tends to include things like prescriptions and exam fees in the base coverage, which adds up fast with injuries. With Spot, some of that can be extra or limited depending on the plan, so value over time can look different than the monthly price suggests.

fetch vs spot pet insurance

i just started comparing fetch and spot pet insurance for a border collie puppy and wanted to hear from people who have already gone through this. if youve used either one id love to know how claims went what they actually covered and whether one ended up being better value over time. im especially trying to think ahead about common border collie stuff like injuries from being super active joint issues accidents and anything hereditary that tends to come up with the breed. would you go with fetch or spot if you were starting over

fetch vs spot pet insurance

Man border collie puppies are basically tiny athletes so youre smart thinking ahead about injuries and joints already, they find ways to get hurt just from going full speed all the time. one thing that comes up a lot in these comparisons is people dont realize how different coverage actually is until the first big claim hits, especially with stuff like meds exam fees and rehab after an injury. dug into fetch pet insurance a while back and it kept coming up that it covers more of those real-life extras instead of making you stack add ons, which matters a lot with an active breed. spot can look cheaper upfront but people run into gaps later with things like meds or dental unless they upgrade.

Is pet inssurance worth it? recs? 🇨🇦

My cat is 1.5 years old (F), no pre-existing issues. \~$3000 saved for her. I could take around 7k from my personal savings if necessary. (Technically could also use credit in an emergency, but obviously not a great option..). I want to be protected incase anything were to happen, BUT I’m hesitant because I’m currently an unemployed university student. so the payment (\~$30/month) would come from her savings rather than -$30 from a consistent a paycheck. I’d still be paying for her regular vet visits, vaccinations, her normal living expenses etccc in the meantime and hopefully not using the insurance for years (ik thats the point though lol). I have around 3 years left of school. Does it make more sense to start pet insurance in a few years once I’ve graduated and (hopefully) have stable income? or is it worth starting it now? Open to inssurance recs, I’m in Canada. I was recommended Fetch but have seen negative reviews.
